After a day of admiring the bright colors and hanging lanterns of San Francisco's Chinatown, I realized that I have very little knowledge of the skills and techniques it takes to prepare and cook Chinese food at home. Other than the limited selection of what Whole Foods and Trader Joe's has to offer, when we crave Chinese food, we tend to go out to a restaurant as opposed to purchasing the ingredients and cooking at home. This sparked an interest in me to learn how to cook some amazing dishes perfect for a summer party or backyard get together. In order to learn more about this culture's cooking styles and recipes, I was invited by Macy's Culinary Council to attend master Chef Ming Tsai's event where he will demonstrate and prepare some award-winning dishes. The event will take place on Thursday, May 21st at 6pm at Macy's Valley Fair location in Santa Clara. As an added bonus, Macy's Valley Fair will be giving away a $10 gift card and a signed copy of Chef Ming Tsai's book, Simply Ming in Your Kitchen. In order to receive both, be sure to make a $35 dollar purchase at the event in the home department (one per customer, while supplies last and time permits). You can RSVP here to attend the event with Chef Ming Tsai and FoodGal's Carolyn Jung. Be sure to arrive on time, as seating is first come, first serve! * I am a member of the Everywhere Society and Everywhere has provided me with compensation for this post. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

My mom is Chinese so I always love going into the shops in Chinatown and buying the amazing sauces and ingredients that she uses in her cooking. I make all of my stir frys with just a tiny bit of oyster sauce and it's amazing!
