Hi there, happy Friday! Today I am spotlighting Lorena, florist and owner of San Francisco's Home Sweet Flowers by showcasing her Flower Arrangement class at WorkshopSF! It was a particularly warm Saturday morning and after a year of passing by Workshop without ever going inside, I was beyond excited to accept Lorena's invitation to learn about floral arranging, insider tips and techniques at the DIY school. The airy and bright space at Workshop is any artist, maker, or creative's vision of an awesome place to learn and work on their craft. As soon as I entered, the vibrant hues of flowers and foliage throughout the space caught my eye along with a massive, hanging chandelier of light bulbs and a large American flag at the front of Workshop.
After short introductions, us twenty or so girls got our hand dirty and covered the space with flower compost, mason jars and of course our pretty bouquets. Lorena's main focus during the class was to teach us how to create a well balanced one sided bouquet, a centered and rounded bouquet that looks amazing from all angles and a few different techniques for wrapping it all up in a tidy and presentable fashion. Using a large kale leaf, stock flowers, vibrant snapdragons, sweet jasmine, delicate ranunculus' and more, Lorena provided colors, varieties and sizes that worked perfectly together to create different combinations of beautiful arrangements!
Aside from teaching at Workshop, Lorena has followed her passion and love for flowers by operating Home Sweet Flowers, a local flower delivery service serving San Francisco. Her warm, personable and fun loving outlook on life shines through her commitment to use only California grown flowers and recycled materials to create seriously stunning bouquets for wedding, events, and for the everyday. Looking for something other than a seasonal bouquet to have delivered to a special someone? Then you should definitely browse her small but mighty selection of succulent gardens . Arranged in a wooden box, these mini gardens are guaranteed to please!
WorkshopSF's slogan "Drink Beer, Make Stuff" makes any class a fun and worthwhile event to participate in with friends or individually! Sounds like fun, huh? Lorena is offering even more classes including an arranging class this Tuesday and a Flower Crown workshop on April 14th. Have prior arrangements? Visit Workshop's class list for additional classes and dates, you won't be disappointed! You can also find Home Sweet Flowers at the Mission Community Market, Whole Foods, Mission Pie and Falleti Foods. Keep your eyes open for her flower truck in front of Workshop and around the streets of San Francisco to brighten your day!
