One of my favorite aspects of autumn is the golden hues, hot apple cider and the cozy gatherings that take place during the season. Despite the craziness and often over booked schedules, finding a time to connect with friends and family makes the stress of the holidays worth it. The significance of spending quality time together in a beautiful environment is becoming more and more important to me with each coming year. To make an event extra special, I love the idea of giving guests a take away item to represent the memories made on the occasion. I absolutely love gold everything during these months and I never grow tired of succulents, so why not merge the two to create the perfect party favor? These adorable and super simple potted succulents in hand painted mini-pots make for a beautiful gift for your friends, family, co-workers and party attendee's alike.
The first steps in making this DIY is (in my opinion) the most fun step! To begin, you will want to spray paint all six clay pots a flat white color. Doing so will allow you to use your creativity with the gold spray paint to create interesting and unique designs. After the white paint has completely dried, this is when you can get creative with the gold spray paint. To make interesting lines and shapes, have fun with your washi tape and try taping it in all directions! Once the tape has been securely placed in the areas you want to keep white, break out the gold spray paint and use this to create the accent color on the pot.
After the gold has dried, gently peel of your washi tap and ta-da! You have completely changed that simple clay pot into a modern and creative succulent holder! From here, simply place a layer of dirt into the pot, trim any unnecessary leaves from the succulent to ensure it fits nicely and plant away! After, be sure to add an another layer of dirt surrounding the base.
After you have gently planted the single succulent in your painted pot, the final step is to cover the dirt with your white pebbles. You will notice how lovely the white pebbles ties into the crisp white color of the pot. The versatility in this DIY is endless and it allows you to create a party favor customized to each guest, which is my favorite part!
I was so satisfied with the way these mini succulent gifts turned out. It was such a breeze to get all the supplies in one store that I just have to share where I gathered the supplies! Orchard Supply Hardware recently opened a brand new location in North Beach complete with everything you could ever need. From spray paint, to kitchen gadgets, to gardening tools and organization pieces, this location really is your one stop shop for all things DIY and home improvement. Be sure to swing by and check out what an amazing job they did in creating a unique store experience the moment you walk through the door.
What celebrations are you looking forward to this autumn? What was your favorite party favor you ever received?
