Merry (almost) Christmas to you all! While I am currently away embracing the snow showers and the holiday twinkle of Sun Valley, Idaho, I am concurrently welcoming my first guest blogger on Sunshine Daydream! Jessica of Thread and Bones is here to share some seriously beautiful and unique December outfit Inspiration. I hope you enjoy her stunning pieces and are having a terrific finish to 2014!
Hi there! When Tiffany asked if I could share some holiday outfits on her blog it could not have been better timing. I have a slew of holiday get-togethers coming up -- all of them out of town -- and this was just the activity to inspire myself before packing my suitcase! The results are three cute, festive, and (most important!) comfy outfits that I think you -- like me -- will be able to recreate out of pieces already existing in your wardrobe. No last minute shopping necessary (unless you’re into that kind of thing ;) -- I hope you enjoy! First, break out your sexiest, vampiest heels -- like this metallic sky-high number. Heels definitely don’t have a place in my day to day life, which is why I go all-out when the opportunity -- like the holiday season -- presents itself.
When I’m putting an outfit together the key factor I’m thinking about is comfort: is this going to be warm enough, cool enough, can I sit down in it, etc.. I tend to pick a comfort piece and build my daily outfit around that -- like this boho sweater. Because I went with something more bulky as a top, I picked a sheer, pleated gold pencil skirt to pair this with -- what better time than December for some sparkle? These skirts have been trending for the last few years, so odds are you have something like this in your wardrobe. Go long or short, and the sheerer the better! What else are tights made for?!
This has been my dress of the year -- I adore the polka dots, the loose, flowy fit, the pintuck details. I’ve worn it for almost every form and informal occasion you can think of. While it’s always fun to focus on styling new items or pieces from the back of your wardrobe -- there’s absolutely nothing wrong with returning to that favorite dress that always makes you feel beautiful. Especially if you’re traveling for the holidays -- this dress is a must to have in your suitcase. I updated this for the holidays with a bright red scarf and lipstick.
I don’t know about you but I am ALL about contrasting a more feminine item with menswear or something boho. Like this slinky velvet tunic I paired with some crazy vintage, high waisted mens pants. I think Annie Hall would approve. This style would look fantastic with a sequined top as well, and/or some big 70’s denim. And guess what -- everything you see here fit in one suitcase with room to spare! Lots of options to mix and match from family gatherings to cocktails with friends. What are your go-to pieces in your wardrobe? What clothes feel the most holiday-esque to you?
