With November coming to a close and December creeping in, there is a great chance you'll be attending or hosting several holiday gatherings over the course of the month. From candles and name holders to perfecting your most favorite recipes, 'tis the season of gathering, toasting and celebrating with friends and family. Often times, tablescapes can be inspired by the elements you already have in the home, which can relieve a good amount of time and stress when setting up for your dinner party or casual cocktail hour. By combining elements found in nature, purchasing fresh, quality tea towels, creating handmade name holders and using elegant housewares, I'm sharing my tips on where to gather the items you need and how to create a perfectly balanced tablescape for any type of celebration. Oh! And party favors are always a nice touch...
In order to start planning and organizing your table, one thing to finalize first is the centerpiece because once you have that prepared, building upon it is easy! In order to gain a cozy, wintry feel I opted for a pair of birch style tall candles and a piece of wood to elevate them. Once I had this placed on my table, it was important to me to add on to the natural vibe I created. I added a single pine cone to sit along side the candles that I had collected on a trip to Point Reyes. (Tip: something about odd numbered items placed together are more aesthetically appealing! Aim for 3 or 5 items drawn together instead of 2 or 4.) When setting your table, it is always a good idea to have a color pop in the center of the table in addition to you the low-saturated items. I chose to add autumn vines with bright orange berries to tie in the ingredients in the meal and to give the table a little extra fun vibe!
Once you have all your garnishes and centerpiece(s) determined, you'll want to match your linens with your chosen color themes. To add on to the wintry tablescape, I went with a dark gray tablecloth with starched lines to create an interesting texture to build upon the layers of plates, drinkware, utensils and fare. After choosing your cloth, you'll want to create a name and napkin set up. For this, I chose to use brand new tea towels and created my own name holders by purchasing a gold metallic pen, thick paper tags and twine. It's a good idea to choose a linen that is not too bright to be sure the unique centerpiece and elements you created to make the table yours stands out! Next, I simply lettered out each guest's name and loosely attached the name tag to the tea towels to ensure each person at the dinner party will feel extra special.
And last but not least, party favors! Be sure to look at my simple DIY party favors as a final touch to your evening. It was simple to create this beautiful winter inspired tablescape by obtaining elements from OSH's new location here in San Francisco!
What parties are you hosting this year? Have you ever seen a unique winter tablescape? What did it entail?
